Ar. Shyuan’s interest in architecture was instrumental to her achievements since early university years, and especially so when she was given the Trent Architecture Travel (Best Student) Award in 2003. During summer of that year, she joined TR Hamzah & Yeang and contributed to several high profile projects e.g. the highest residential tower competition in Mumbai.

In 2004, Ar. Shyuan Kuee graduated from the University of Sheffield with a First Class Honours. She was offered by BDP to join their award winning London Studio where Shyuan was introduced to a broad range of multi-use projects spread across the UK and internationally. Soon after, the company rewarded Shyuan with a scholarship toward postgraduate studies at UCL’s Bartlett – one of the top architecture schools in the world, where she explored narrative architecture under the tutorship of CJ Lim.

Upon graduation, Ar. Shyuan’s strong interest in sustainable architecture brought her to work for the world renown architecture firm Foster + Partners in London. Her contributions to mega projects e.g. Zayed Musuem Abu Dhabi, Masdar City and UAE Pavilion in Shanghai Expo 2010 had all helped shape her dedication in designing green buildings. She became a RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Chartered Architect in 2010 and subsequently set up her Chartered Practice Kuee Architecture.

Equipped with the exposure she had in the West and Middle East, she was ready to return to Malaysia, and particularly Ipoh where she was determined to contribute in the local sustainable scene. She successfully passed her LAM registration examination on her first attempt.

From then on, her practice Kuee Architect started to grow steadily. Over the years, she and her team has worked on many exciting projects consisted of private residence, housing schemes, hospital and medical centres, hotels, car showrooms, government and royal buildings, factories etc. Her company even explored developments internationally e.g in India and Myanmar.

Ar. Shyuan became a Green Building Index Facilitator in 2018. Recognizing her continuous contributions in this field, she was elected as the committee member of MGBC (Malaysia Green Building Council) to help promote the sustainable scene in the country.

Her work and contributions were further celebrated with her receiving the ARCASIA Travel Award 2018, Britishpedia Successful People 2020, and subsequently the most prestigious PAM Awards for three years consecutively in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Her 1 Lasam project which won PAM Silver Awards in the Sustainable Development Goals category, was also shortlisted for The Edge – PAM Excellence Awards 2022.

Despite all her achievements, Ar. Shyuan remained as an empathetic individual. She has led her team to work on various pro-bono projects for many local NGOs and charity establishments all these years, shaping comfortable built environment for the less fortunate without any monetary return. She believes that good architecture should be enjoyed by people from all walks of life.
